About this tool
The point of JPG to PNG is rarely a smaller file, since it usually gets bigger. It is to get a lossless canvas without compression noise for further retouching, cutout work or design assets.
- Lossless container: saving again does not accumulate compression loss
- Alpha channel: PNG supports transparency for later steps such as mosaics and watermarks
- Batch mode: process several images and download a ZIP
- Cleaner edges: text and icons avoid the color halos JPG produces
When to convert
- JPG assets that will be edited in Photoshop or Figma
- Intermediate images that are saved repeatedly and must not degrade
- Images used as masks or layers on a web page
When not to convert
If the goal is only sending or storage, do not convert to PNG: a 200KB JPG often becomes 1 to 2MB. Use the image compressor for that instead.
