About this tool
This tool converts between the three mainstream image formats, PNG, JPG and WebP, solving everyday problems such as photos going blurry in chat apps, a logo losing transparency when saved as JPG, or a site needing WebP while you only have PNG:
- Any direction: PNG to JPG to WebP and back with one click
- Batch mode: drop several images, convert each and download a ZIP
- Quality control: output JPG or WebP from 10% to 100% to balance clarity and size
- Background fill: when producing JPG, fill transparency with white, black or any color instead of a jarring default
- Same pixels: conversion changes encoding only, never dimensions
- Wide input: BMP, GIF, SVG and ICO that the browser can display all work, with GIF using the first frame
When to convert
- Photos and screenshots: PNG screenshots to JPG often shrink to one fifth or one tenth
- Logos, icons and QR codes: keep PNG, since JPG adds gray noise around edges
- Web optimization: batch PNG and JPG to WebP, then compress for a clear speedup
- Upload limits: many platforms accept only JPG, or only PNG when transparency is needed
All conversion happens in the browser; images are never uploaded, so sensitive screenshots and ID photos are safe to process.
Choosing a format
| Format | Transparency | Compression | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNG | Yes | Lossless | Logos, icons, line art, screenshots, images to edit again |
| JPG | No | Lossy | Photos and scenes with rich gradients |
| WebP | Yes | Lossy or lossless | Web images, smallest size at equal quality |
Common questions
Q: Does PNG to JPG blur the image?
A: Pixel sharpness is unchanged, but JPG is lossy, so fine detail gains compression noise and transparent areas become solid color. Keep quality at 90% or higher.
Q: Why did my transparent image come out white?
A: JPG has no alpha channel. Choose black or a dominant color as the fill for transparent areas to make the result look natural.
Q: Are iPhone HEIC photos supported?
A: iOS Safari reads HEIC directly, so conversion works on an iPhone; Windows and Android need the system or camera app to produce JPG first.
Q: Are images uploaded?
A: No. Conversion uses the native Canvas encoder, reading, processing and downloading locally, so the server never touches image data.
