AI image generation
2 totalText-to-image, image-to-image, inpainting and image understanding.
Image generators compete on control as much as on output quality: can they keep a character consistent, change only one part of the frame, accept your own reference images, and export layers or workflows you can keep editing?
If you need one spot in an existing image changed, inpainting and image-to-image matter more than the model itself. If you need dozens of assets in one consistent style, workflow and batch features are the deciding factors.
Decide whether you need a finished image or raw assets:
- One image you can use directly: pick an online product that handles both Chinese and English prompts, then refine details with inpainting.
- Batches in one consistent style: choose a product that supports workflows and custom model weights, or run an open-source workflow locally.
- You have material to edit: outpainting, background removal and upscaling tools are faster than a general generator.
- Part of a design file: you need transparent backgrounds and layered output; pure generators are weak here.
- Commercial use with evidence: check whether the platform labels generated content and grants commercial rights. If your references contain third-party work, the risk is yours.

Frequently asked questions
Can generated images be used in commercial projects?
It depends on the license the platform grants and the references you used. Most platforms grant commercial use to paying users, but in many jurisdictions the output does not create exclusive copyright, meaning you may not be able to stop others from using similar content. For brand key visuals, redraw or do a second design pass.
Why does the same prompt produce a different image every time?
Generation starts from random noise, and a different seed gives a different result. Reproducing an image requires fixing the seed and recording the model version and parameters. That is why workflow tools store parameters in a file.
How is running locally different from an online product?
Local runs avoid content moderation and queues and let you load community models and weights freely, at the cost of VRAM, tuning and maintenance. Online products are stable and ready to use, but style and parameters are limited by the platform.
Can these tools understand image content?
Yes. Give the image to a multimodal chat product with vision: it can read charts, text in screenshots and design annotations. Those capabilities are concentrated under chat assistants.
