About this tool
The word counter reports every count you need while writing, editing or doing SEO work:
- Characters: with and without spaces
- Chinese characters: exact count of Han characters
- English words: split on whitespace
- Digits: how many numeric characters the text contains
- Punctuation: counts for both ASCII and full-width marks
- Lines and paragraphs: structural counts for the text
When to use it
- Submissions: check an article against a journal or publisher limit
- SEO: keep meta descriptions and titles within length limits
- Exams: count essays that must stay under a word limit
- Translation billing: price work per character or word
- Social media: check limits on Weibo, Twitter and similar platforms

Counting notes
- Chinese characters: Han characters only, excluding punctuation and spaces
- English words: whitespace-delimited, so "Hello World" is two words
- Characters: the with-spaces figure counts everything, the other excludes spaces
- Common limits: Weibo 140 characters, WeChat articles around 20,000 characters, Twitter 280 characters
