About this tool
The Chinese to pinyin tool converts Han characters into Hanyu Pinyin:
- Tone marks: include tone marks (ā á ǎ à) or leave them out
- Initials only: output just the first letter of each syllable
- Aligned view: show pinyin next to the characters
- Spacing: choose whether syllables are separated by spaces
- Keep other characters: digits, Latin letters and punctuation pass through unchanged

Pinyin notes
- Tone marks: ā is first tone, á second, ǎ third, à fourth, and the neutral tone takes no mark
- Polyphonic characters: the tool uses the most common reading, so a few characters may be wrong
- Rare characters: anything missing from the lookup table is passed through unchanged
