About this tool

Two things cause arguments in any draw: which options are really in play and whether every option has a fair chance. This wheel makes both visible. You supply the options and the weights, each slice is drawn at its true proportion, and the pointer stops in the slice it lands on.

  • Weighted random: write name:weight; a weight of 3 makes an option three times as likely as a weight of 1, and slice size and the probability table update together
  • What you see is what you get: the landing slice is looked up from the final angle, and drawing and judging share the same angles, so the pointer cannot stop on A while the result says B
  • Remove winners: with this on, each spin removes the winner and redistributes the odds, handy for drawing several people without repeats; an accidental removal can be restored to the list as it was before editing
  • Spin history and hit counts: every result, its duration, how often each option won and its share are listed so you can check whether the odds are behaving
  • Sound effects: a short tick as the pointer crosses each slice, synthesized locally in the browser and easy to mute
  • Share link: options and weights are encoded in the URL fragment, so the recipient opens the same wheel with no account and no server
  • Presets: what to eat today, yes or no, chore rotation, a 1 to 10 draw and a weighted prize draw, all loaded in one click and editable
  • Helpers: add a single option, shuffle slices, reset the pointer, or clear and start over

When to use it

  • Year-end parties, communities and livestreams with prize tiers at different odds
  • Families and couples settling what to eat without another round of debate
  • Classroom roll calls, chore rotation and random groups where winners should not repeat
  • Assigning shifts or acting as the neutral judge in a team decision
  • Teaching probability: slice size shows weight, expected value and observed frequency side by side

Option syntax

You typeParsed asNote
AppleApple, weight 1Equal odds when no weight is given
Banana:3Banana, weight 3Half-width or full-width colon, or a comma
Melon, 2.5Melon, weight 2.5Decimals allowed; only relative proportions matter
Note: see the guideThe whole line is the name, weight 1If the part after the separator is not a number, the line stays a name

FAQ

  • Is the wheel fair? Each spin is independent, so the previous result has no effect. Over a small number of spins, results can stray from the configured odds; only a large sample converges
  • Can a weight be zero or negative? No. Non-positive values are treated as 1 so an option cannot occupy a slice while being impossible to win
  • Why is there no sound? Browsers only allow audio after a user gesture, so the first click on the spin button enables it; a muted system or tab also silences it
  • What if there are too many options to read? Above 14 options the slices show numbers instead, while full names and odds remain in the table beside the wheel
  • Can a removed winner be brought back? Use restore removed options to return to the full list as it was before editing; the button only appears when something has been removed
  • Is any of this uploaded? No. Options, weights and history live only in the page memory, are cleared on refresh, are never written to a database, and a shared wheel travels entirely in the URL fragment
