| QTH / QRM / QSB | --.-. -.... / --.- .-. -- / --.- ... -... | 三字母 Q 简语:QTH 询问位置,QRM 指干扰,QSB 指信号衰落,用极短码表达整句常用语 |
| AR | .-.-. | 一段传输结束的分隔符,相当于换行 |
About this tool
Morse code is less about the alphabet than about rhythm and spacing. This tool combines conversion, a reference table and audio playback, so you can look a code up or listen to it:
- Both directions: text to Morse and Morse to text, covering 26 letters, 10 digits and 20 punctuation marks
- Audio playback: synthesized in the browser at 5 to 40 WPM with a 500 to 800 Hz tone, played dot and dash in order
- Standard timing: dot 1 unit, dash 3 units, letter gap 3 units and word gap 7 units, following the PARIS standard
- Tolerant input: accepts
.or·,-or—, with slashes or double spaces as word separators - Error hints: names the characters that cannot be encoded and the runs that cannot be decoded
- Signal reference: SOS, CQ, DE, 73, AR and common Q abbreviations with their patterns
When to use it
- Practicing receiving and copying code for an amateur radio license
- Demonstrating encoding and redundancy in a classroom
- Decoding dot-dash clues in puzzle games, escape rooms and easter eggs
- Checking a distress pattern before sending it with a light, knock or whistle
- Turning short text into Morse audio for a notification or asset
Timing rules
| Element | Duration in dots | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dot | 1 | The base unit; dot milliseconds are about 1200 divided by WPM |
| Dash | 3 | Always three dots long |
| Intra-character gap | 1 | Between dots and dashes inside one letter |
| Letter gap | 3 | As long as a dash, which is how E and I stay distinct in a stream |
| Word gap | 7 | Written as a slash in text; the length difference prevents ambiguity |
Common questions
- How do I send Chinese in Morse? International Morse covers Latin letters, digits and punctuation. The traditional route is a four-digit telegraph code first, then the digits in Morse; this tool converts digits directly, so Chinese must be changed to pinyin or a telegraph code
- Why is decoded text all uppercase? Morse itself carries no case information, so output is normalized to uppercase
- Does SOS stand for Save Our Ship? No. It is simply the unmistakable rhythm
... --- ...; the letters carry no meaning, and CQD was used earlier - Why do I keep hearing H as 4?
....and....-differ only in the final dash; listen for word gaps rather than counting letters - What speed should I practice at? Start at 8 to 13 WPM and move to 15 to 20 once you can copy reliably; higher speeds shorten letter gaps and cause confusion
Conversion and playback run entirely in the browser with no server involved.
