About this tool
Photos from a phone often arrive sideways, and scans sometimes need mirroring. This tool fixes orientation in seconds:
- Quick turns: 90 degrees left, 90 degrees right and 180 degrees cover most cases
- Any angle: a slider or input from -180 to 180 degrees to straighten a tilted horizon
- Horizontal and vertical flips: create a mirror image or correct bleed-through on the back of a scan
- Expand the canvas: on by default so the rotated image is not cut off; turn it off to keep the original size and lose the corners
- Fill color: fill the empty corners with transparency, white, black or any custom color
- Output format: keep the original or export PNG, JPG or WebP
When to use it
- Fix photo orientation: images that lie on their side because the EXIF tag was lost
- Straighten horizons: tilted buildings, documents and whiteboards
- Mirror effects: hand transfer and T-shirt printing often need a horizontal mirror first
- Square up assets: scanned or photographed book pages and drawings
About phone photo orientation
Phones usually store an EXIF orientation tag, and modern browsers use it to show the image upright. What you see after import is normally what you expect. If a device or an app exports the wrong orientation, turn the image upright here.
FAQ
Q: Will rotation crop the image?
A: Expand canvas is on by default, so the canvas grows to the bounding box of the rotated image and nothing is lost. Turn it off to keep the original size, which cuts the overflowing corners.
Q: Does a non-90 degree rotation blur the image?
A: Any other angle needs resampling, so edges soften slightly. If the image is only turned the wrong way, prefer the 90 degree shortcuts, which move whole pixels and keep quality.
Q: Are images uploaded?
A: No. Rotation and flipping run in a browser canvas.
