About this tool
The hash calculator outputs several hashes of the same text at once, replacing separate MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 tools:
- Many algorithms: one input returns MD5, SHA1, SHA224, SHA256, SHA384 and SHA512
- HMAC mode: enter a key to compute message authentication codes such as HMAC-SHA256
- Case toggle: switch the output between upper and lower case
- Live results: values update as you type, no button needed
- Copy each value: copy any hash on its own
Algorithm comparison
- MD5: 128 bit, fast, but collisions are proven and it is not suitable for security
- SHA1: 160 bit, no longer recommended for security use
- SHA256: 256 bit, SHA-2 family, currently secure and widely used
- SHA512: 512 bit, SHA-2 family, stronger still
When to use it

- Hashing passwords for storage

- Verifying API signatures
- Deduplicating records
All computation runs locally in the browser; nothing is uploaded.
