Code completion, AI editors, agentic coding and natural-language app building.

Products with similar names in this category do three different jobs: completing the next line inside your editor (a plugin), treating an entire repository as context for code changes (an AI editor or agent), and turning one sentence of requirements into a reachable web page (site builders and prototypes).

Picking the wrong form wastes more money than picking the wrong brand. People who write code daily need the first two; people validating requirements and building non-production pages need the third.

How to choose

Choose by how you already edit code:

  • You do not want to switch editors: use a completion plugin for VS Code or JetBrains. Switching cost is close to zero.
  • You need changes across files: use an AI editor or agent that can read the whole repository and run tests. The cost is adapting to a new editor.
  • You only need a page quickly: natural-language site builders are faster, but accept that you may not want to maintain the project structure they generate.
  • You care whether code is used for training: read the enterprise terms. Most vendors offer a no-training switch or a separate enterprise deployment.
  • You want it on your own machine: see the open-model category and combine a local model with open-source plugins.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI-generated code reliable?

For well-bounded work such as boilerplate, data conversion and unit tests, it is stable. For business rules, authentication and concurrency, it often produces something plausible that misses edge cases. Treat it as a productivity tool; the code still needs review and tests.

Completion plugin or agent: which one?

A completion plugin suggests while you write, and you remain responsible for every line. An agent takes a task, searches the codebase, edits multiple files and runs commands, so the blast radius is larger and you need to review the diff before merging. Most teams use both.

Will company code be uploaded to an external server?

Cloud plugins send context to the vendor by default; that is how they produce suggestions. If compliance matters, choose a version that supports private deployment, or one that explicitly promises not to train on your code and encrypts transit.

Do I have to pay?

Most offer a free allowance for individuals, then charge by request volume or subscription. The price tag in the list only indicates the barrier; check the official pricing page for current limits.
