• How far apart are exact and nominal age? Usually one year, sometimes two for people born early in the year. Nominal age starts at 1 and adds one at each new year, so people born between the twelfth lunar month and the first month differ most. This tool uses calendar year minus birth year plus 1, with New Year as the boundary; folk custom sometimes uses Spring Festival, which can make the same person one year apart before and after it
• For someone born on 29 February, which day is the birthday in a common year? There is no single rule. Registration and legal practice use either 28 February or 1 March, so the tool offers both when it detects a leap-day birth, and exact age can differ by a day
• Does the zodiac follow Spring Festival or the start of spring? Folk activities mostly use Spring Festival, while astrology and the Ganzhi calendar use the start of spring. Births early in the year are the tricky case; this tool uses the start of spring and says so, matching the Ganzhi calendar
